Hamilton Things to Do
Home to the scenic Niagara Escarpment, the Hamilton City Centre, picturesque vineyards and farms, Hamilton also features beautiful waterfalls and hiking trails. If you love nature, you will find many outdoor activities in Hamilton.
Start Your Adventure at the Hamilton City Centre
If you are new to the area, visiting the Hamilton City Centre is a good way to start your vacation. You do not want to miss the waterfront or ancient Dundurn Castle. Note that the castle is closed every Sunday and Monday.
Do Not Miss The Royal Botanical Gardens
It is well worth the 11-mile trip via taxi or a rented car to visit the Royal Botanical Gardens located in nearby Burlington. These gardens feature excellent formal gardens along with woodland and wetland areas.
At the Royal Botanical Gardens, you definitely want to get your hands on a guidebook and map. You can also ask for advice about the best way to tour the gardens containing a medicinal garden, rose garden and children’s garden. The site also features the Rock Garden, the Arboretum, the Laking Garden and the Cootes Paradise Sanctuary. Plan to spend an entire day.
Visit the Art Gallery of Hamilton
Although downtown Hamilton is on the bleak side, the Art Gallery of Hamilton stands out like a sore cultural thumb. You can view many different art forms at this gallery including landscapes, photographs, sculptures and, believe it or not, an awe-inspiring VW bus. If your hotel is located in Niagara Falls, the drive to the Art Gallery of Hamilton is worth your time. Plan to spend two hours at the gallery.
