Hamburg Nightlife – Clubs, Bars & Nightlife Tips

Hamburg Nightlife

Visitors to the city of Hamburg in Germany have a lot of activities by day, but once the sun goes down is when a lot of the fun really starts.  The nightlife in Hamburg is some of the best in all Europe, where visitors and locals alike kick back and enjoy a good time.

Reeperbahn

Known as Germany’s answer to Amsterdam, the Reeperbahn region of Hamburg is a place where morals are loose and nearly everything is available for a price. Start at one of the bars on the end of the main street and walk as far in as you like to the sex shops and brothels. Visitors who want to look, but not touch, have a number of strip clubs in the vicinity. Be warned that when it comes to paying for love, prices are high and some sex workers take the opportunity to charge for everything, including walking in the door or taking a picture. Girls may sit down next to you and ask for drinks, then stun you with a huge bill for a single beer or glass of wine.

Pub Life

The popularity of the pub atmosphere has grown in Germany, making their numerous neighborhood bars a welcome sight for British or Irish visitors with a homesick streak. By far the most famous is the Thomas Reed Pub, a multi-level bar that has riverfront views on the bottom floor and a full discoteque on the top. Most of the staff are Irish and well-versed in mixology; the cocktail list is long and famous for its quality.

Gay Nightlife

The progressive mantra of Hamburg has led to a number of gay-friendly (or gay-exclusive) establishments that come alive at night. Bar Hamburg is perhaps the most well-known of all the city’s gay bar spots.  It’s not just large enough to accommodate hundreds of visitors in one night, but features a lot of different music choices to appeal to all tastes and ages. It’s located in the St. Pauli region, where many other gay bars have set up shop near the red light district.
