Guadalajara Transportation

Guadalajara is one of the largest cities in Mexico and the capital of the state of Jalisco. It’s a popular location whose transportation network includes taxis and cycles.

Getting Around by Taxi

Guadalajara is a heavily populated city that’s also quite spread out, making travel by vehicle almost necessary. Taxis are an affordable way of getting around, but be careful before getting in one. First, you want to make sure that your taxi driver uses a meter. This will ensure that you get the fairest price possible. However, if your taxi doesn’t use a meter, make sure you set a price with your taxi driver before departing.

Car Rental

Another choice for getting around the region is to rent your own car. You can choose various car rental companies that rent both American and local brands. Just remember that while driving between cities can be a fairly smooth experience, being in the city is a different experience. Traffic can be intense and the road conditions can be rough. Also, be aware that there are military checkpoints on the road, so make sure that you are carrying all the necessary paperwork.

Taking a Bus

The bus is a popular choice for getting around, and there are actually two bus stations in Guadalajara. The short-haul bus is just south of the central downtown area and goes to outlying towns. The long-distance bus line is six miles south of downtown and will take you to various states in the country.
