Grand Baie Transportation
Grand Baie, Mauritius is a resort town on a pretty cool beach. People come there from all over the world to see, be seen, and relax in a tropical paradise while their cares wash away on the ocean’s waves. If you’re in Grand Baie, chances are high you will be spending most of your time on the beach. However, there is more to this trendy town, and fortunately, several excellent transportation options for getting to those places.
You’ve got to have a way to get from the airport to the beach, right? Well, the taxis in Grand Baie are the way to go. If you are staying at a northern beach, your ride from the airport is going to be about an hour, so why not take it in the cool, private comfort of a taxi? It is certainly much easier than trying to use public transportation in a country you’ve never been to. It’s best to try to get taxi rides included in your travel price if you’re coming to Grand Baie on a travel package. If not, be sure to keep at least 2,000 rupees on you, so you will have enough to haggle a good fare with the taxi driver.
Local Bus Travel
The Triolet Bus Service operates the public buses that connect the villages and towns on the northern coast of Grand Baie. The buses stop every few hundred meters, and are reasonably priced. They are a good option if you want to explore the other towns near your resort, and get a taste of the local culture. Just wait at one of the plentiful roadside bus stops, and they even have “Bus Stop” written in English on the signs. When a bus approaches, flag it down. They come along pretty frequently, so you should never have to wait too long to get one. Just remember, the buses only run during the day, so if you want to travel at night, you’ll need to get a taxi.
