Grand Bahama Island Transportation — Taxi, Train, Bus & Airport Tips

Grand Bahama Island Transportation

Grand Bahama Island is the northernmost island of the Bahama islands. It’s served by an international airport with many flights and an extensive network of buses. Head into the island directly via the airport. Then take advantage of the local buses to get to beaches and golf courses.

The Airport

The small airport on Grand Bahama Island is centrally located and makes an easy trip from many cities on the American east coast. It’s only a short trip from the center of town to the airport. You can take a cab or take a bus. It’s a quick trip so taking a bus is an easy option if you want to save money. Six different airlines fly here daily from many locations in the United States including Newark, Atlanta and Orlando.

The Public Bus

Getting around the island via bus is easy. Look for pink gazebos that serve as bus shelters. They’re all over the island. Bus drivers will take you where you want even if it’s off the regular routes. Buses are cheap and run frequently. This is a great way to get to the beaches directly. The small buses are really minibuses that run until about eight at night so you can count of them when traveling during the day. They’re privately operated and will give you change but they only take Bahamas currency.

Renting a Car

Remember to drive on the left side of the road as The Bahamas are part of the British Isles. Renting a car is not necessary in many cases if you are staying at an all-inclusive resort.
