Gozo Transportation – Taxi, Train, Bus and Airport Tips

Transportation Tips When Visiting Gozo

Read these tips to improve your transportation experience while visiting Gozo and surrounding areas.

Buses

Public transport is fairly inexpensive, but not all drivers will make change. They are slow running, infrequent and there are no routes to the ruins. If you want to see all the sights then make sure you have more than one day.

Hop Off Bus Tour

The Hop on Hop Off is a quick and easy way to see the island. The tour takes about two and a half hours and you get automated headphones to learn about the sights. There are no stops though so you don’t get to explore.

Airport Shuttle

If you arrive in Malta International Airport there is a bus shuttle to the ferry that will take you to Gozo. You can pre-book seats or purchase them on board.

Hire a Driver

You can hire a driver near the harbor to take a Jeep Tour, which has the benefit of getting you off the beaten path. Local drivers can take you to places the buses won’t go or that you might not think about visiting. These are slightly more pricey than a bus tour, but much more flexible.

Ferry

The most popular way to travel between the sister Islands of Malta and Gozo is by ferry. They are a comfortable, air conditioned way to travel. Ferries operate every 45 minutes and trips take about 20 minutes. The return fare is automatically charged and they only check the ticket on the return trip.

Seaplane

Go by air in a reliable, conveniently scheduled seaplane that runs between Gozo and Malta. The flights offer spectacular views and first class service. They fly by Mgarr Harbor in Gozo and the Sea Passenger Terminal in Valleta Malta.
