Girona is located 61 miles north of Barcelona and is easily reached from there by bus, train, or car. Many people skip Girona, but don't! Girona is historical and charming. High speed trains from Barcelona take 35 minutes to arrive, and slower, less expensive trains take an hour and a half. Buses also take you from Barcelona to Girona. Girona is a lovely medieval city, easily accessible by walking. Getting into the old section takes 15 minutes; just over the first bridge you'll find a tourist office with information and maps. Cobblestone streets lead the way as you explore, though some are uphill so be prepared to walk. At the top of the hill, at the river, visit the old Jewish Quarter, medieval cathedral, moorish gardens, and the University. There are many places to eat and drink along the way, though check the hours: some close from 1:30PM to 4:00PM for siesta.
