Geographic Thinking In Jamaica

Author: cylove
Date of Trip: September 2003

My husband and I ran and relaxed on the white sands of Negril, Jamaica. We stayed a whole week in this beautiful place.

Highlights:
Jamaica is just one of the many islands in the Caribbean Sea. Once we got there our vacation really began. The capital of Jamaica is Kingston, which is also the largest city.

The island is known for their misty blue mountains and sunny tropical beaches and more. It is incredible driving around the island and seeing different sights.

They also honk a lot, but not to be rude. It’s just their way of saying hello. Rather than stay just in Kingston, we also did the last four days in Montego Bay. My best memories in Jamaica are Montego Bay. The beautiful beach, and how white the sands are.

Best Way to Get Around:
Rent a car. You will want to see all of the island and the drive is awesome. Also, some of the sights are fairly remote. The last thing you want to do is be stuck on a tour bus for a few hours.

Accommodations at White Sands:
I can’t say enough about White Sands. We feel lucky to have discovered such a wonderful place on a tight budget. They have the best beach and two-for-one drinks in the area too. Not only are the rooms clean, attractive, and mosquito free, the staff will do anything to make your stay comfortable.

Rachel the housekeeper supplied us with local advice. This is a family run hotel that puts others on the beach to shame–don’t waste your money with a bogus American style all-inclusive. Go to White Sands and the REAL Jamaica! You’ll never regret it!

Dining at the Blue Mountain Inn:
We reserved a romantic evening at the Blue Mountain Inn, where you’ll dine on gourmet cuisine in an elegant garden setting amidst old English antiques and décor. This former coffee plantation is about a half-hour from New Kingston. Supposedly this was a very good restaurant by everyone that my husband and I talked too. Reservations are required.
