The Gambia Nightlife
Most if not all of the nightlife in urban Gambia takes place in the coastal city of Serrekunda, specifically in the resort town of Kaloli. However, there is plenty of other spots to explore if you know where to look.
Kaloli
The short road in Kololi that leads from the Senegambia Hotel to the main road is known locally as the Senegambia Strip or more simply just The Strip. With several large hotels nearby, it has become a focus for tourist nightlife as well as for locals looking to meet and mix with those tourists. It’s a good place to get a reasonably priced meal or cheap beer. It’s also an excellent place for a spot of people watching. Be sure to pay a visit to the Jazz Club and the Kora. It is also not at all uncommon to come across seemingly spontaneous local dancing — day or night. The performers are casually dressed in “western attire” or splendidly outfitted in colorful local garb. Feel free to stop and enjoy — tourists and newcomers are always welcomed with a smile! Just don’t be surprised if you’re invited to join.
Kotu
Kotu township in Serrekunda also boasts a thriving nightlife scene that the locals enjoy more than tourists, but all are welcome in Kotu. Several of the clubs and restaurants here, unfortunately, share space with a large electrical substation that produces an inordinate amount of noise pollution. However, those that choose to party here simply turn the music up even louder and celebrate even harder.
Cape Point
Cape Point is also home to several bars and restaurants that will stay open past sundown, albeit these establishments are a bit more upscale and thus cater more towards tourists than locals. If you’re looking more for a safe bet, Cape Point may be the spot for you.
