French Lick Things to Do
French Lick, Indiana is likely a place old NBA fans have heard about since it’s the hometown of the Legendary Larry Bird. Outside of basketball fans, this small Indiana town might be a bit off the grid, but its peaceful surroundings allow for visitors to enjoy the attractions and must see locations that dot the area.
The French Lick West Baden Museum
The French Lick West Baden Museum is a kind of interactive museum that shows the history of the area but also delves into areas of science that every kid and even most adults would be well served to learn. Local history does include things like Larry Bird and other famous people who lived in and around the area. It also talks about the Native American tribes that have deep roots in the region. The broader topics include things like whether or not they have found water on Pluto and what forms that water would take if it was found on other planets. It’s quite easy to spend an afternoon at this museum despite the town’s small size.
Indiana Railway Museum
The lifeblood of French Lick and the surrounding area have long been the railway system. Because of this the town is the perfect place to have the Indiana Railway Museum. The facility was founded in 1961 and not only can people go there to see the history of the industry in the state, but there is still a working line of the railway that extends 25 miles out and runs from French Lick to Jasper. This is a sight to see and experience if you’ve got a day you want to spend learning about the history of the place you’ve gone to visit.
West Baden Springs Hotel
This is a luxury hotel that might look as though it sticks out a bit in this small town, but it appears it stands as a place people come expressly to see. Top notch dining and beautiful rooms are just the tip of the iceberg. There is a casino on a level of the hotel, as well as an indoor pool. Some families have reported coming to French Lick and the surrounding area specifically in order to take advantage of this hotel and its amenities.
