Uber wants to dominate the ride-share space, and it's offering both short- and long-term incentives to secure that dominance.

The company already has points-earning relationships in place with

    American Expresss

    and

    Starwood

. Now Uber has two promotions in effect with Capital One as well, featuring a discount and free rides.

    20 Percent Discount

    Holders of

    Capital One Quicksilver

and QuicksilverOne cards will receive a 20 percent discount on all Uber rides charged to the card, through April 2016.

The discount is in the form of a statement credit.

    Two Free Rides

First-time Uber users who charge their rides to any U.S.-issued Capital One credit card will receive their first two rides free. Offer applies to rides costing $30 or less.

    Deal or No Deal

For regular Uber users, the 20 percent discount potentially represents a huge savings over the next 12 months. The Quicksilver card is a 1.5 percent cash-back card, with a one-time $100 bonus after spending $500 within the first three months. There are, to be sure, more lucrative cash-back cards available. But there's no annual fee for the Quicksilver card, so it might be worth getting solely for the Uber discount.

It's probably not worth signing up for a new Capital One card just to get the two free Uber rides. But if you already have a Capital One card, and have yet to try Uber, the freebies are worth as much as $60.
