Florida Transportation – Taxi, Train, Bus & Airport Tips

SmarterTravel

Florida Transportation

Florida is one of the most popular American states. Getting here and around is easy via several international airports and miles of highway.

The Airlines

Major Florida airports include the international airports of Tampa, Miami, and Orlando. Travelers find many connections from American and international cities. All three cities have discount flights even during the busy summer and winter seasons. While Miami and Tampa airports are located relatively closely to the city, Orlando is about a 45 minute drive to DisneyWorld.  To avoid the crowds to Tampa, consider flying through the less crowded Southwest Florida airport in Ft. Myers.

The Car

Renting a car is a good idea if you’re planning a trip. Highway driving in Florida is easy and pleasant with many well-kept roads. You will need to a car to get from places like Orlando to Tampa or from Miami to the Space Coast. Distances are long. Even getting across the state will take you at least three hours.

The Bus

If you are planing to stay in a large city like Miami, buses run frequently so you can rely on them. If you are staying on the grounds of Disney World, there’s a private bus that brings you to all the parks in the morning such as Animal Kingdom and Epcot and then bring you right back to your hotel at night. If you are staying anywhere else in Orlando, a car is a must. There’s ample parking on the grounds and monorail to bring you to the amusement park,
