Date of Trip: April 2013
Our Florence adventure began on 30th April 2013. We booked a flight with Ryanair to Pisa which was great value and a great service.
We stayed over-night at NH Cavalieri Hotel in Pisa which is opposite the railway station which was very convenient for our journey into Florence the next morning. The hotel was clean and comfortable and reasonably priced with a decent breakfast.
We travelled to Florence on 1st May 2013, the trains are frequent and on time the fare was 7,80 euros each, would definitely recommend using the train to travel.
In Florence we stayed at the Diplomat Hotel which is close to Santa Maria Novella railway station and also the bus station.
This was a lovely hotel, very clean and comfortable, and in a good location near the Duomo, Museo di Santa Maria Novella, Ponte Vecchio Bridge, Uffizi, Accademia Gallery etc, all within walking distance. The tour bus is very good you can hop on and off all day till 8pm and it drops you off at all the major attractions, a very good way to see the city.
Boboli Gardens are stunning and the Palazzo Pitti is in there, well worth a visit. Piazzale Michelangelo is a must as you get a magnificent view over Florence and the hills that surround it.
Florence is like an open air museum with wonderful architecture and statues so much history and culture.
I would recommend getting an Inside Out pocket guide (e bay) it’s small and has two pullout maps which were very useful.
One word of warning – food and drink is quite expensive so beware.
