Florence – What to Pack – Clothing and Supplies Tips

Florence What to Pack

Florence is one of Italy and Europe’s most idyllic cities, but it’s not without its perils. Before heading here for the first time, make sure you pack plenty of sunscreen, a pair of comfortable shoes, and more than one map of the city.

Luggage

Bring a backpack or rucksack along. It’s easy to carry when you are out and about, especially if you are using public transportation.

Sunscreen, Hats, and Sunglasses

Florence can get quite hot, especially during the summer months. Tourists are encouraged to pack sunscreen, hats, and to wear sunglasses to protect against the summer sun. Chances are you’ll find yourself in more than a few lines, waiting to get a glimpse of the David or gain entrance into a famed museum. If you prepare yourself now, you can avoid the pain of sunburns later.

Clothes to Pack

Comfortable Shoes

Florence is a very walkable city. In fact, it’s nearly impossible to visit here without doing a fair amount of walking. With that in mind, make sure you take the time to include a pair of running shoes or comfortable sneakers in your luggage. You may not look as good as you would in heels, but your feet with thank you when you’re climbing cobblestone stairs.

Maps

Perhaps the most important item to bring with you to Florence is a map. If this is your first visit, bring a few. It’s also prudent to bring along a travel book that can help you navigate the neighborhoods, public transportation, and streets of Florence. The locals are helpful, but you don’t want to waste valuable time asking for directions when you could be out exploring this historical city.
