SmarterTravel.com Contributing Editor Erica Silverstein went through airport security lines at Washington, D.C. (National) and Boston Logan en route to Ireland on Friday, and reported that, as of mid-afternoon, security lines were minimal. She said that there were "national guard or army-type people with guns walking around the airports," and that at National, passengers' bags were checked as they were boarding the plane, but that there wasn't much to report in terms of long airport delays.

Next, week, I'll get another firsthand report about the security lines and carry-on restrictions of her return journey back to the U.S.
