First Trip — Colorado

Author: Galskygge
Date of Trip: November 2005

First stop was the New Orleans airport. From there I rushed around like crazy trying to figure out what to do since I had never been on an airplane before, nor in an airport at that. While waiting at the gate for my flight, a group of teenagers had me take a group picture of them. They were traveling to Denver, Colorado to go skiing. After a while, I then ended up meeting a couple and their child from Slidell, Louisiana. The lady’s husband was originally from Slidell, and his family and himself were visiting his Mother. They were traveling back to where they live in Denver, Colorado.

The flight was delayed by an hour, I believe, but I finally discovered what it’s like to travel on an airplane. Personally, I found that I like traveling by Ted (operated by United) the best. The people who worked on it were nice along with it’s passengers. I also discovered that the aisle seats are good seats. Three people were seated to one section of seats at a time. Fortunately I ended up in a set of seats where it was only myself and one other person. I don’t remember the girl’s name who sat next to me but she was really nice, which suprised me. After landing in Denver she had to take another plane out to New York. She was traveling on business.

Two hours or so later the plane landed in Denver, Colorado. The airport in Denver is supposedly the largest airport in the USA. I think I believe that now. It was really huge. The couple that I met at the gates to the flight on the way to Denver were there, offering me to tag along with them to meet my friend at baggage claim. We ended up taking something that operates similar to a monorail and a subway inside of the airport. What it does is take people to concourse A, B, C and baggage claim. After getting off we headed to baggage claim where I told them good bye and came across my friend, Nick. Once we said hello and hugged we headed out of the airport and out to grab some dinner.

Instead of writing a novel with every little detail I am now going to make this brief. I stayed at my friend Nick’s house for 14 days. I met his family, who were very nice people, and I hung out with friends of ours at either their houses or at some place in Parker, Colorado. One day Nick and I took his little sister to Denver Museum of Nature & Science in down town Denver. It was quite amusing and entertaining there. I definitely reccomend that museum to anyone who loves to venture off into museums of all kinds.

The tempature there was, well let’s just say, it was cold compared to Louisiana. One day it was 28 degrees outside. There wasn’t any humidity either. It was more like a dry cold rather than a wet cold like we have down in Louisiana. Since I’ve been back home I find I don’t get cold as often as I used to it.

The AMC movie theatre is also a lot different than what we have in Louisiana. It’s two stories tall versus our one story movie theatre. It’s very roomy and not to mention clean. I was quite impressed with Parker, Colorado above all of the other cities in Colorado. Though, all of the cities I visited in Colorado were nice, Parker was my favorite.

My biggest enjoyment while in Colorado would have to be when one of my friend’s took Nick and myself to Castlewood Canyon State Park located in central Colorado. He took us hiking as well as a little bit of rock climbing while we were there. It was cold that day but it wasn’t too bad. The weather started warming up just slightly, so my fingers weren’t popsicles any longer. The park was absolutely gorgeous. We traveled off of the concrete path, venturing towards the trail leading through the canyon. In the middle of the canyon there is a dam. It was different to see such a sight.
