Faro Transportation – Taxi, Train Bus & Airport Tips

Faro Transportation

Faro is an elegant town on the Portuguese coastline. Getting here is easy during the busy summer months when the region becomes a destination for travelers in search of warm air and blue seas. Getting around Faro is easy. There are many public transport options.

Airport Travel

Faro is served by the Aeroporto Internacional de Faro. Be aware that it gets very busy during the summer. Be prepared for long lines getting in and out. However, it does offer compensations in the form of wonderful views along the Ria Formosa. The center of Faro is only four kilometers away. Hire a taxi if you have lots of luggage or catch one of many buses. Buses depart from the airport every half an hour or so. Look for routes 14 and 16. The trip takes about twenty minutes. For destinations further away along the coast or to rest of Portugal, the bus will bring you to a train station.

The Train Station and Buses

The city of Faro is a destination for travelers from other cities including Lisbon and Seville. In order to serve the needs of travelers from both Spain and Portugal, it has an extensive railway network. Located about 500 meters north of the Old Town center, this is where you’ll find many high speed rail connections. Local trains make it easy to get to nearby destinations in the Algarve region such as Albufeira. The local bus company is Próximo. Look for blue and white buses. Smaller buses are ideal when you’re traveling through some of the narrow streets in town while their larger buses serve the major thoroughfares.
