Facebook users can now share travel blogs

If you’re one of the 19 million users the social networking site Facebook, one of the most popular website in the U.S., you can now integrate travel blogs and photos into your profile, making it easy to share your travel experiences with all your friends. TravelPod (a sister site of SmarterTravel.com), one of the top travel blogging sites on the Web, started offering its blogging capabilities to Facebook, allowing TravelPod members to share their blogs, photos, and travel maps with their Facebook friends.

Anyone can join both TravelPod and Facebook for free. Once of member of both, you can add TravelPod to your Facebook profile (much like you’d add a photo or a group). A TravelPod “patch” will then show up on your page under the “Information” section, which will include a map displaying the places you’ve traveled and links to your TravelPod blogs and photos. Your friends will be able to access this content as well.

On May 24, Facebook launched a new development platform that enables outside companies to integrate their content or web tool into Facebook through “applications” users can opt to add to their profiles. Dozens of companies have jumped at the chance to put their products and content in front of Facebook’s highly active users. In addition to TravelPod, other travel applications available include a trip tool by SideStep and a mapping tool from EF. Users can also add games, videos, horoscopes, classified listings, and other content from outside companies to their profile. I imagine online travel sellers, airfare search engines, and other travel websites will be jumping on the Facebook bandwagon in the coming weeks, so keep checking back with Facebook to see if your favorite travel site gets added.
