Estoril Transportation – Taxi, Train, Bus & Airport Tips

Estoril Transportation

A quaint and historic town on the Portuguese Riviera, Estoril is a charming place to visit and very accessible from Lisbon.

Train

Estoril has a direct train connection to Lisbon. The station is right on the beach front, making it very convenient and cheap for day trippers coming from the capital. Trains are regular, clean, safe, and very cheap. It takes only about 30 minutes to reach Estoril on the regular regional trains. Just remember that although they run from Lisbon, they are actually CP trains and require a different ticket. You can travel on them with your Via Viagem card, but you can’t charge it with a ticket for the Libson Metro; you must have two separate cards for each.

Also, until you get used to the system, you should leave extra time and ask for someone to help you work the ticket machine for the first time. You must get your ticket stamped for each trip. If you do not, the conductor will make you get off at the next station to stamp it.

Walking

The walk between Estoril and Cascais is very pleasant and straightforward. Part of the way you can walk on the sand, while for some sections you will walk on the promenade; both are very scenic and enjoyable.

The promenade is flat, well paved, and is lined with plenty of benches along the route for those who wish to break up the journey with a rest. There are also a few cafes and ice cream vendors along the way and, even some public exercise machines if walking isn’t good enough exercise for you.

The promenade is also very popular for cycling, rollerblading, and dog walking. The walk between Estoril train station and Cascais is a little over 2km and can be comfortably completed in around half an hour, even if you stop to take pictures.

Bus

The bus from the airport to Estoril/Cascais may or may not be running during your visit. There are undoubtedly other busses that go between Lisbon and Estoril/Cascais for a very reasonable price, but you will need to check the local bus routes and schedules to plan your trip.
