Again, with the snakes on a plane? We’ve written about multiple mid-air incidents involving stowaway or smuggled serpents, but it seems that people just can’t seem to learn that snakes should stay on the ground.
CNN reports that a reptile shop owner smuggled an Egyptian cobra in his carry-on aboard an Egypt Air flight from Cairo to Kuwait this week. (Note to Cairo airport security: step up your game, since you missed a live cobra during screening.) Once airborne, we imagine that the snake decided it didn’t enjoy flying, and showed its displeasure by biting the smuggler on the hand. The wounded smuggler tried to control the snake, but it ended up slithering out of his bag and escaping into the cabin.
The plane made an emergency landing, and the snake was confiscated.
Cobras’ venom is deadly enough to kill a person within 15 minutes, but apparently the smuggler’s bite was just a nick, as he refused medical treatment, claiming that his injury wasn’t life-threatening. (And, since he didn’t die 15 minutes after the bite, we suppose he was right.)
