Now that you’ve booked your flight and tours in Cairo, it’s time to figure out what to pack for your desert adventure!
If you’re traveling to Cairo in the summer months, be prepared for extremely hot temperatures. This means bringing light colored shirts to deflect the rays of the sun in lightweight, breathable fabrics. Also note that Cairo can get chilly in the winter months, especially in the evenings so bring one or two jackets and layer your clothing for when the sun comes out. You’re most likely going to Cairo to visit the museums and desert which means lots of walking so bring comfortable shoes. Leather shoes and other types or shoes that would give you blisters are discouraged.
You can’t bring have enough sunscreen in Cairo. If you forget your sunscreen or don’t want to lug it with you, toiletries in Egypt are relatively inexpensive. You’ll need sunglasses to protect your eyes from the blinding heat here, especially during the early to late afternoon when the temperature is high. Stay hydrated while you’re exploring by bringing plenty of water with you- water in Egypt is not drinkable from the tap.
It is not uncommon to have items stolen while in Cairo. Try not to carry a fancy peice of luggage and put a small lock on your suitcase if you are able. Before your trip pick up a money belt or neck wallet to minimize the chance of getting pick pocketed. Make sure you pack a small backpack to carry your sunglasses and water in while you’re treking around Cairo.
