United's MileagePlus program has partners. Lots of partners. United wants you to remember that, and is offering bonus miles to reinforce the message.

    Offer Details

    Through November 20,

    MileagePlus

members will receive a 30 percent bonus when earning miles with participating program partners they haven't earned miles with for at least 12 months. (United's airline partners and credit cards are categorically excluded from this offer.)

A maximum of 25,000 bonus miles may be earned through the promotion.

    Registration is required.

    Deal or No Deal

As bonuses go, 30 percent is on the tepid end of the scale. And the very limited number of participating partners further undermines the potential value of this promotion.

United loyalists who would have earned miles for partner transactions anyway might as well register to earn the extra miles. But for most others, the bonus is too insignificant to be a difference-maker.

    Reader Reality Check

Is a 30 percent bonus worth considering, much less pursuing?
