Weather Information
Wyoming's climate varies drastically by geography, latitude, and time of year. In general, spring and summer are typically mild and pleasant, while winters can be windy, cold, and snowy, especially in mountain areas and places like Yellowstone. Summers average daily temperatures in the 70s and 80s, which cool down considerably at night, particularly in high elevations. Snow often starts falling in mid-September, but winter weather doesn't really hit until late November, rendering autumn a very pleasant season.Crowd Information
Yellowstone experiences the heaviest crowds in July, while Cheyenne sees the most visitors during Cheyenne Frontier Days at the end of July. The northeastern corner receives an overflow of visitors from the Sturgis Biker rally in the first week of August.Closure Information
Yellowstone is completely open for the summer and much of the fall. There is a period from mid-March to mid-May when Yellowstone is virtually closed. One road is open between Mammoth and Cooke City, but there is no grooming of the other roads during that period. Over-snow vehicle access (snowcoaches and guided snowmobile trips) runs from early December to mid-March.When to Save
The best bargains on hotels and other deals are offered during the fall and spring low seasons. May and mid-September are the best times to save money on hotel and airfare. When to Book
For the high season, book six to nine months in advance (longer if possible) for park hotels and lodges in Yellowstone and Grand Teton.Information provided by Wyoming Travel and Tourism
