West Virginia experiences four seasons and can be an affordable destination year-round. The most popular time to visit is during the summer when school is on break, and in the fall when hunting season takes place and the leaves change color. Spring can be an ideal time to travel, with fewer crowds and pleasant weather.
high season: May to October
low season: November to February
shoulder season: March to April
Even though January through March is off-season, skiing and winter sports attract large crowds to resort areas.

Lodging, shops, and other attractions remain open throughout the year. However, the Potomac Eagle train stops running in October. Some museums and state parks also close for the winter season.
