Charlotte Travel Guide

Why You Should Visit Charlotte

With a skyline dominated by dramatic high-rises and historic buildings, Charlotte is a prosperous city with a lot to offer visitors, including a wide range of hotels, restaurants, and activities. Charlotte is the home of NASCAR, and it also boasts professional football and hockey teams, plus opera, symphony, and art. One unique reason to visit Charlotte is its National Whitewater Center, where you can test your skills on manmade class II to IV rapids.

When to Visit Charlotte

Many of Charlotte's attractions operate year-round, but you might want to plan your trip to a racing event, sports game or festival. Visit in September or October for fall foliage in the nearby Appalachians at Blowing Rock, Roan Mountain, or along the Blue Ridge Parkway; ski Appalachian Ski Mountain, Beech Mountain, or Hound Ears December through March. Avoid the summer peak crowds at the lakes, and nearby mountain areas if you can.

The Weather in Charlotte

Charlotte is in the mid-South, which means hot, steamy summers and cool-but-not-frigid winters. As with many inland U.S. cities, the best overall weather is in March, April, May, September, October, and November. However June, July, and August are rainy and hot; December, January, and February are chilly, although the area doesn't get much snow. Every indoor venue is air-conditioned, so plan your clothing accordingly.
