Saint Augustine

About

Founded in 1565, St. Augustine is the nation's oldest city, and is naturally full of many "firsts" and "oldests," such as the Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse in the U.S.A. and the Oldest House Museum Complex. In fact, the city's historic district claims more than 60 sites. One of the most popular St. Augustine attractions is Castillo de San Marcos, a megalithic fort built in 1672. But the city also offers more than 40 miles of beaches on its barrier islands, where fishing is a popular activity. Additionally, the St. Augustine Lighthouse has an observation deck that allows guests to admire the view of the sea. St. Augustine is served by Jacksonville International Airport, about 50 minutes north of the city, and Daytona Beach International Airport, located about one hour south.
