When To Go

Whether it's fall foliage, beach-combing, or historical tours, Rhode Island has an activity for every season. Summer is an ideal time to enjoy the warm weather with an outing to the coast, while fall provides a colorful backdrop to an afternoon drive. Winter brings indoor activities, festivals, and the lowest prices; and spring offers a mix of pleasant temperatures and savings.

high season: July to August
low season: January to March, November
shoulder season: April to June, September to October, December

Weather Information

The climate is temperate throughout most of the year, with occasional scattered showers. The summer is the warmest season, with temperatures reaching 90 degrees in July. Summer temperatures drop as the leaves begin to change color, and it remains cool until November, when the first measurable snow falls. The winter experiences freezing temperatures and blankets of snow.

Crowd Information

The summer months tend to be the most crowded, with the onslaught of annual festivals such as Waterfire in Providence, JVC Jazz Festival in Newport, and induction ceremonies at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport.

Closure Information

Coastal motels and bed and breakfasts are likely to close during the off-season and not reopen again until Memorial Day.

When to Save

The best deals are offered during the winter months of November through February. However, a vacation in the spring will also save money while avoiding the chill of winter. Discounts are offered for travel on Sundays through Thursdays year-round.
