Everything from big city entertainment to the great outdoors is available in New York State. Upstate New York has the perfect weather for camping or hiking in the summer and skiing during the winter. Mild temperatures and a burst of golden colors add to the experience of fall. New York City can feel a little crowded and hot during the summer, with humidity levels and tourism rising during July and August.

Weather Information

Extreme temperatures envelop New York City during July and August when humidity reaches nearly 90 percent. Close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean causes a long frost-free period, typically delaying snowstorms until December. Much of the rest of the state experiences mild and pleasant summers. Winters in upstate New York can be extreme, with heavy snowfall and ice that can last into mid-May.
