Hilton Head Island, a popular family getaway, is located off the coast of South Carolina. Only 12 miles long and five miles wide, the Hilton Head community packs in 24 golf courses and over 250 restaurants. Many Hilton Head activities center around the beaches, including cycling on the hard-packed sand. However, heritage and culture make the island truly unique. For a glimpse of history, visitors can see the remnants of mysterious shell rings up to 240 feet long on the northern end of the island. Hilton Head also has a diverse cultural background that includes the Gullah people, descendents of West African slaves.
Flights to Hilton Head land on the island at Hilton Head Airport. The area is also served by Hilton Head/Savannah International Airport, about 45 minutes away.
