Alabama has moderate weather year-round, so anytime can be a good time to visit. However, the most popular tourism season is during the summer due to the state's Gulf Coast beaches. Winter is typically the least popular time. Although less busy than summer, spring brings students to the beaches on school break, and fall attracts visitors with its foliage, particularly in northern Alabama.

Weather Information

Alabama is warm and sunny throughout the year, but can get chilly in the winter. Spring weather starts early, usually in March, with temperature highs in the mid-70s and lows in the 50s. Summer heats up with highs in the low 90s and lows in the 70s. Fall is a little warmer than spring with highs in the upper 70s and lows in the 50s. Winter drops to highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s and 40s, depending on regions and altitude.

Crowd Information

Holidays and sporting events, such as Nascar in Talladega in early May and early October and college football games in the fall, draw large crowds. Fourth of July, Memorial Day, and Labor Day create high visitor traffic as well.

Hotels, shops, and venues remain open year-round.

The best time to visit to save money is during the fall and winter. Summer is typically the most expensive time.

When to Book

In general, book as far in advance as possible to get the cheapest prices and best availability. Although last-minute booking has been popular in the past few years, the trend is starting to change. For airfare specifically, book at least 30 days in advance as prices tend to go up at the last minute.
