Delta plans international expansion out of Los Angeles

As noted here before, Delta is pinning its survival hopes on international travel, and we’ve seen a massive expansion into new international markets this year. Earlier in the year the airline announced it was making New York’s JFK airport an East Coast hub for its transatlantic flights. Now it’s looking to the left coast—specifically Los Angeles’ LAX airport—as a new mini-hub for Mexico and Latin American destinations, according to a report at AviationNow.com.

Beginning in mid-December, Delta will add daily service from LAX to nine cities in Mexico and one city each in Costa Rica and Guatemala. In addition, it’s launching new intra-California “feeder” service into LAX from San Francisco, Sacramento, Oakland, and San Jose to help with the LAX international expansion effort. It has already added new feeder service from East Coast cities Hartford, Columbus, and Raleigh.
