    Delta has

    asked

a bankruptcy court for a four-month extension of the existing deadline under which it must file its reorganization plan. If approved, the airline would have until November 8 to file its plan. (The current deadline is July 11.)

The airline says it needs additional time to "avoid the necessity of having to formulate a plan of reorganization prematurely." It also hopes to address lingering issues with its pension plan.
