Cuzco Warnings and Dangers
Located in Southeastern Peru near the Urumba Valley in the Peruvian Andes, Cusco is home to striking archeological remains from the Inca Empire. While coming to this charming city to experience its history and beauty, stay safe and aware of Cuzco warnings and dangers while sightseeing or partying.
Public Displays of Affection
According to Cuzquenian law, any sign of public affection is taboo. If you are caught kissing your significant other in the square, for instance, police might throw you in jail for the night. Making out in public and other displays of affection are a big “no-no” in Cuzco.
Watch the Altitude
Altitude sickness is a real thing like motion sickness. The air is thin and Cuzco is 11,000 feet higher than Lima, where you will catch your flight. It takes a bit to acclimate. Machu Pichu is over 2,000 feet high. Therefore, it’s easy to get sick while climbing if you aren’t acclimated and physically fit for the trip. Altitude sickness symptoms include headache, lightheadedness, or dizziness, and stomach aches. If you experience symptoms, visit a doctor.
After flying into Cuzco, take some time to rest and get used to the altitude before exerting yourself.
It’s common for locals to try to sell drugs to tourists. It’s also common for local police to catch tourists buying drugs. This will land you in jail and with stiff fines. The younger crowds draw the dealers in more than older crowds do.
Cabs with the yellow and black cubes have permits. Cabs without these cubes do not. Be aware when taking a ride you don’t get in the wrong cab. Cabs without a permit are more likely to rob you.
