Continental to Allow Credit Cards Onboard

Over at Today in the Sky, Ben Mutzabaugh reports that Continental passengers will soon be able to use their credit cards for onboard purchases. The airline, which Mutzabaugh says is the largest U.S. carrier that doesn’t allow the feature, will debut the service as a test later this month before expanding it to all Continental flights.

The big question, however, is whether Continental will join the growing ranks of airlines that have eliminated cash purchases in favor of plastic. Apparently, Continental hasn’t decided yet. Further complicating matters is the fact (and a refreshing one, at that) that Continental simply doesn’t charge for a whole lot onboard—just alcoholic beverages, headsets, and entertainment options. Meals and other amenities are complimentary.
