Industry analysts are predicting a busy summer ahead at airports, and that means longer, slower lines at security. So when CLEAR—the biometrics-based pre-clearance system that allows passengers to skip the line at airport security and get straight to the screening—extended a summer offer for a free three-month trial to SmarterTravel readers, the timing seemed perfect.
Last summer I took CLEAR—you can read about my experiences using the system as a solo traveler and on a family trip with an ornery toddler—for a test drive after getting a discounted four-month membership from a group-sale site. This offer is for a slightly shorter window, but since it doesn’t cost a thing, it’s an even better opportunity to try out the service.
When I wrote about CLEAR last August, it was only available at six airports, but now it’s up and running at nine locations in the U.S., with more to be announced soon. It only makes sense if your home airport (or one that you fly out of regularly) is on the list, but if it is, it’s absolutely worth a try. Keep in mind that you’ll need to go through the registration process, which means planning seven to 10 days in advance, and budgeting time for a trip either to the airport or a city location for the fingerprinting and eye scans that are at the heart of the system.
To get the free three months, go to CLEAR’s website and use code SUMMERPASS by June 15th.
