THSR Railway Station in Chiayi
The THSR railway station is the place to catch a variety of transportation. Take the high-speed train to different places in Taiwan as this station connects the northwest and southwest parts of the country. It’s a thoroughly modernized station where you can find bathrooms, lockers, vending machines, ticket counters and souvenir shops. Buying tickets in advance can get you a hefty discount off the total fare for the high-speed line. Or find the Alishan Shuttle Bus Terminal to get to Alishan National Park. The terminal is on the right-hand side of the main railway station, and people rave about the efficiency and frequency of the schedules. You shouldn’t need to buy tickets in advance as the buses are unlikely to sell out. Most people get to the National Park via tour bus. You can catch a free shuttle from THSR to downtown Chiayl too.
Getting Downtown and Around Chiayi
The Chiayi Railway Station is the other major area to catch the highspeed line, and has a free shuttle bus that will take you to THSR too. You’ll find the bus terminals upstairs and across a bridge. Once you’re in the major shopping sections of downtown, you can rent a scooter to save your feet the hassle. You can get around practically everywhere in Taiwan via scooter, and you won’t have to worry as much about traffic.
