Charleston What to Pack
You’ll want to make the most out of your visit to the historic city of Charleston, so be sure to pack what you’ll need before you go.
No matter what you have planned for your Charleston adventure, these luggage options are ideal for a short or long-term stay.
Charleston has a mild climate, but what you pack will depend on the season you go
Spring/Fall – Think light layers, the weather can be warm or on the cool side.
Winter – Wear layers and a jacket. Rarely will you ever need gloves, scarf or hat.
Summer – It gets very hot and humid, so light cottons are good. Nights are cooler so make sure you have a sweater handy.
Generally, you’ll want to pack for play, sightseeing, casual and dressy. If you plan to head out of the city to one of the local beaches, pack beachwear. A hat is helpful for both sightseeing and the beach.
Downtown Charleston has very limited parking and you’ll be on your feet a lot, so make sure to bring good sturdy shoes.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies
Bring anything you’d normally pack, but if you do forget something, any toiletries you need are easily available. The sun can be strong even in Charleston’s milder months, so don’t forget your sunscreen. You might want to consider bug repellent. Mosquitoes are not too bad in the city, though they can be a pest in the marshes and the beaches, and, if you’re out visiting the plantations, you’ll find them there too.

Don’t forget your camera. The Charleston light is kind and is positively lovely in the late afternoon. Avoid using flash if you are inside a church.
Pack enough for your trip, but save room for the great memories you’ll have from visiting beautiful Charleston.
