Celebrate Valentine’s Day With Frequent Flyer Miles

Every year, about a month or so before Valentine’s Day, the major online florists begin offering bonus miles or points through their airline and hotel partners.

If you’ve never ordered from a national online flower company before, the process is straightforward. First, you visit the florist’s website and choose the flowers you wish to send. Then the florist transmits the order to a local affiliate who creates the arrangement and delivers it.

There are already several frequent flyer bonuses on offer, as follows:

  • Members of [[American Airlines | American’s]] AAdvantage program can earn 25 miles for every $1 spent at 1-800-FLOWERS.COM through February 15. Use promotion code AAL48.
  • Members of [[United Airlines | United’s]] Mileage Plus program purchasing flowers at FTD.com can also earn 25 miles per $1 spent, plus an extra 100 miles per order.
  • And in the hotel arena, [[Hilton HHonors]] members are being offered 1,500 bonus points—triple the normal points—for purchases at either FTD.com or Teleflora.

It’s likely there will be more such offers from other airline and hotel programs announced in the coming days and weeks.

As always, we caution against overpaying for any product or service just because it comes bundled with frequent flyer miles. But if you’re confident that the prices at the participating retailers are competitive, it certainly makes sense to take advantage of the available miles and points. It’ll make Valentine’s Day a happier one for all concerned.
