What to Know About Buying Train Tickets
Most travelers recommend taking rail service to Cefalú from Palermo Airport (also known as Falcone–Borsellino Airport). If you are coming from Messina, you can also take a train to arrive in Cefalú.
It takes a little over an hour to get to Cefalú from the Palermo Central Station (Palermo Centrale). Regional trains depart throughout the day almost every hour. When you buy your rail ticket, be sure the line you choose stops at Cefalú. There is an express train available as well.
If you have been visiting in Messina or are traveling through this city, there is a train station here that will get you straight to Cefalú. The ride via train from Messina takes just over two hours. Just sit back, relax and enjoy the Sicilian coastline.
In this region of Italy you purchase your tickets from a machine. Machines accept debit and credit cards, coins and bank notes. The ticket machines also do have English translation which is helpful. The ticketing machines give change but use smaller notes if can if paying by cash. If there is not enough change available, you’ll receive a credit note and you will have to get in line at the ticket desk to redeem it.
When you arrive, you will find Cefalú Railway Station is close to the historical center and it takes only 15 minutes to get the Cathedral on foot. If you prefer not to walk, you can take a taxi. The taxi stop is located very close to the exit of the rail station.
