Cambridge Transportation

Just a short distance across the Charles River from Boston, Cambridge is home of Harvard and a beautiful city to visit on its own. Thankfully, a reliable public transportation system and tourist friendly trolley tour make it easy to skip all the traffic and enjoy the sights.

The Boston T

For only a few dollars, you can travel between Boston and Cambridge on the subway, known as the T. Not only is it a convenient way to get around the Boston area, but trains run frequently all day and stop in well-known parts of Cambridge such as Harvard Yard and Kendall Square. If you make the T part of your trip, you will get to see much of the city while riding on the oldest subway system in the United States.

Scenic Trolley Tours

More for sightseeing than efficient transportation, the scenic trolley tours are a perfect way to get straight to the main attractions without the stress of navigation and parking. The trolley functions outside of the public bus routes and costs $35 a day (less for multiple day passes). The cost is certainly higher than public transportation, but might be well worth it as the trolley gives you door-to-door service between the most popular sites and allows you to enjoy each place on your own schedule.

Parking

The lovely historic city of Cambridge was not built with cars in mind. If you drive, remember parking is very limited and you might end up walking fair distances. There are four major parking garages to check if you are driving into the city: Harvard Square Parking Garage, Church Street Parking Lot, Holyoke Center Parking Garage, and University Place Garage.
