Tourist Traps in New York City Tour Buses

For visitors to the city that never sleeps, there is so much to see and do in New York the question is how do you see it all?  Many tourists opt for a tour bus in New York City to quickly get them around, but some people see these tours as tourist traps.

Tour Bus Tips in New York City

There are many different tours to consider when visiting New York City.  One fun celebrity tour includes some famous buildings such as The Cafe from the show Friends, The Cosby house, and a building where Monica Lewinsky used to live. Another tour would take you to such places as Greenwich Village, Soho, Chinatown, Times Square, and Battery Park. The tours are either half days, full days, or night tours and are typically expensive, charging a flat fee of anywhere from $30 on up per person.

If you sit inside the bus, chances are you won’t get a very good view of the sights. Instead, choose a seat on the top row of the double decker tour bus and you’re guaranteed to see it all. Just remember that you’ll be exposed to the elements so bring along an umbrella and sun protection. It can be difficult to hear the tour guide’s explanations of sites you visit so be sure to take along a brochure or travel book that explains many of the tour stops.

Alternatives to Tour Buses in New York City

The most interactive way to see the city is by walking. That’s how the locals do it. And if you get tired of walking, you can take the subway, public bus, or take a taxi. Bus drivers and taxi drivers are friendly and helpful with tourists trying to find their way around the city. Other alternatives include riding the water taxis or the Staten Island ferry.
