Water Water Water

When traveling here, always make sure that you have sufficient fresh bottled water with you. This can be a very unforgiving environment, and the sun gets fiercely hot with extreme temperatures that can cause dehydration, sunstroke, and extreme exhaustion. This is a really hot and dry place. Not enough warning can be given for the dangers of heat and thirst. Make sure that you are replacing lost fluids. Heatstroke can creep up on you quickly.

Wedge-Tailed Eagles

In Outback Australia, you may see an awful lot of roadkill. Most have been pulled to the sides of the road, but some are still on the road. Crows usually attack it, but sometimes you will see the big Wedge-tailed Eagle.

Please do not run over this bird. Slow down, and let him fly out of the way.

Weather

If you’re camping in outback areas like Broken Hill or Mungo and the weather changes, pack up fast and get out of there. With heavy rains, the roads turn to mud and can quickly become impassable.

Don’t Get Stranded

If you venture into the bush, let someone know where you’re going, what route you’re taking, and when you’ll be back. You may get stranded for any number of reasons, and if no one knows where you are, you really could die. Travel with plenty of provisions and stay on the main roads.

Camping

Don’t wander off alone. Stick to marked paths and areas. Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses. Wear good hiking/walking boots for snake strike.
