Bratislava Things to Do
There is much to see and do throughout the city of Bratislava. Here are some of the best (and often least expensive) attractions you should consider taking in.
Bratislava Castle
The castle itself is rather impressive and a great photo opportunity. It also provides an excellent view of the city below thanks to its location on the top of a tall hill. Inside, you’ll find a beautifully maintained castle with a collection of art and artifacts on display. With a good portion of the castle used as a museum, you can spend a large chunk of a day simply wandering the grounds of the castle. Even if you don’t go in, at least stop by for the great view of the city.
Old Town
Old Town is a beautiful spot to just walk. There are plenty of small shops and cafes that line the streets, so you are bound to find something you’d like to purchase or somewhere you’d like to eat. Of course, you don’t have to spend a thing to just walk through the old streets and enjoy the beautiful architecture that surrounds you.
St. Michael’s Gate
In order to protect the city and to monitor those coming in, Bratislava once had a fully encompassing gate and wall (as did most cities of the time). However, St. Michael’s Gate is the only remaining gate in the entire city wall. This makes it a must see.
Primate’s Palace
When walking Old Town for the shops and cafes, make sure to stop by Primate’s Palace. The building will stand out as it features a light-pink exterior. It isn’t anything over the top but it is a beautifully constructed building. From the sculptures on the exterior, to the way you walk under several archways as you move through the outside of the building, this is a fantastic display of regional architecture. You don’t need to be an architecture fan to enjoy its beauty.
Art
You’ll find statues and sculptures throughout the city (especially in Old Town). Keep your camera ready as many of the benches showcase specially crafted art. There will always be something to snap a picture of.
