Bora-Bora Transportation – Taxi, Train, Bus & Airport Tips

Bora-Bora Transportation

Situated among a cluster of islands in the Pacific Island, Bora-Bora is a remote location famed for its luxury resorts. Visitors will find that transportation around the island requires a love of sea or air travel.

Traveling by Boat

Because most of the island’s hotels are separated from the actual island itself, the ferry system in Bora Bora needs is quite robust. If you’re staying on Bora-Bora Nui, you’ll have to take the ferry into town if you want to go to an off-resort restaurant or shopping center.

Arrivals and departures by plane in Bora-Bora are from the motu, where the airport is located. You then take a shuttle boat from the airport to downtown. Sometimes these services are free, and at other times you will have to pay. Many hotels offer packages that include a free ferry trip to the hotel grounds themselves.

Air Travel to the Island

Before you can even start thinking about boating to your hotel, you’ll have to reach the island first. There are many airlines that run routes to Bora-Bora, but visitors should be aware that travel to the island occurs on smaller planes in many cases. The airport itself doesn’t have very comprehensive security, so you can move on to your hotel without much delay.

Getting Around

The very shape of the island of Bora Bora lends itself perfectly to a fun biking trip or a trip by scooter. You can rent either and ride all the way around the island, which is about a 20 mile journey. Along the way, you can stop in the center of the village to do some shopping.
