    I'm a fan of

    JetBlue

, but not of the airline's TrueBlue loyalty program.

TrueBlue may be somewhat less of an afterthought than it was in its early days, but it still reflects a notable lack of company enthusiasm and commitment.

While the airline has made some progress in shoring up the program—the addition of a

    mileage mall

most recently—TrueBlue remains a weakling among heavyweights.

So it's a refreshing surprise to see JetBlue launching a TrueBlue bonus offer that's worth mentioning in this space.

    Offer Details

Through November 18, TrueBlue members can earn 10 extra points per dollar spent on JetBlue flights. There's no limit on the number of times the bonus may be earned.

Normally, TrueBlue members earn six points per dollar when booking flights on jetblue.com, so the extra points amount to a 167 percent bonus.

To earn the bonus, you must register for the promotion and book qualifying flights by October 14.

    Deal or No Deal

The bonus is a hefty one. That's good.

And it's on offer for flights throughout JetBlue's network. Also good.

Where the promotion tilts toward the Scroogish is in the booking and travel deadlines. Giving customers just a one-week booking window, and a five-week travel period, is stingy.

In all, though, this is a deal that JetBlue partisans will relish, and that gives potential customers a compelling reason to give JetBlue a try—provided they're prepared to book by October 14 and complete travel by November 18.

    Reader Reality Check

This is a solid promotion. But is TrueBlue a program worth earning points in?
