As more and more people travel with their pets, some destinations are gaining a reputation for accommodating and even pampering our four-legged friends. MSNBC.com recently reported on
top 10 pet-friendly cities
that cater to the needs of animal and owner alike.
The choice of these cities is based on
Dog Fancy's
list of more than 20 criteria, including the number of dog-focused activities, hotels that allow animals, restaurants that let pets sit on the patio, and the amount of available pet care.
This year's top-dog city is San Diego, chosen for its off-leash beaches, pet-sitting services, pet-friendly restaurants, and kayaking for dogs. Other cities Fido will flip for include Seattle; New York City; Carmel, California; Chicago; Orlando, Florida; Portland, Oregon; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Austin, Texas; and Long Beach, California.
