Bellagio Transportation – Taxi, Train, Bus & Airport Tips

Bellagio Transportation

Bellagio is a municipality located in the far north of Italy, and positioned comfortably along Lake Como. The city is well connected to the surrounding areas by bus and ferry.

Ferry

Bellagio can be reached by car or bus from Como or Lecco. Indeed, if you have time and the weather’s agreeable, it can be a pleasant trip, although the road is narrow and not for the faint-hearted. However, if you prefer to go by water, Bellagio runs regular services to Cadenabbia and Menaggio on the western bank. Ferries also run to Varenna on the east.

When staying anywhere on Lake Como, visitors are advised to take a trip on the lake at least once. A trip to the region without one just wouldn’t be complete. The ferries will take you to some of the quaint towns on the lake or to the City of Como, which is the biggest town along the waters. Ferries leave Bellagio practically every hour until nine in the evening.

There are three types of ferries. The first is the rapid ferry, which is a hydrafoil that goes very fast. There’s also the normal passenger ferry. Finally, there’s a large ferry that can take cars over the lake. Visitors to the area should consider at least taking a boat trip from Bellagio down to the town of Como. The ride is a little over two hours and on a nice sunny day, and you can’t beat the views of the lakefront villas and towns along the way. The boat has both outside and inside seating, as well as a bar for drinks and snacks. It’s also affordably priced at just a little over eight euros. Once aboard, just sit back and watch as the hills roll by. You’ll also be able to spot the various mansions, castles, and farms that make the region so scenic

Train

The closest train station is on the east coast of the lake, at Varenna, which is a little town worthy of visiting in its own right. This station offers connections north, to Bellano and Tirano, or south to Lecco. Trains depart fairly regularly and are typically punctual. These trains run along the east coast of Lake Como and provide great views along the route. To reach this station, you’ll have to take the ferry to Varenna first. Travel to Bellagio from Milan can also be accomplished by train. Milano Centrale train station runs a regular route Varenna, from which you can catch the ferry over to Bellagio.
