Beautiful Lancaster, PA

Author: diane tucker
Date of Trip: October 2012

This trip to Lancaster PA proved to be an eye opening one for us as well as a spontaneous one! We haven’t been to Lancaster PA for 23 years so says my spouse’s first sargent whom we visited and who has lived in the Lancaster region for over 40 years. What a beautiful area!

We spent a day at the Strasburg Railroad Station; directly across the street is a railroad museum which we also spent hours touring. There are full size trains inside this enormous building with movable stairs on some so you can “climb aboard”! We purchased a combo ticket for a train ride and entrance to the museum. You can go in and out of the museum for the day with your ticket purchase. In addition to the trains housed inside, there is also an outdoor area full of trains. We “forgot” just how big trains actually are! This would be a great place to take any child or adult if they love trains. My spouse is more into trains than I; however, I loved this day trip which is located only 10 minutes away from Lancaster.

On the way back to our motel, we stopped at the many “antique” stores which we can do for hours on end. We actually purchased an antique desk which my spouse and a friend picked up after we returned home from our trip. The desk would never fit into my car but fit quite readily in our truck. We also checked out the many outlet stores ling Rt 30; if you like shopping, you need to visit the Goodwill Store on SH 30. We’ve been to many thrift store but this one is far and away the best one we’ve ever been. Their clothing is high end and in very good condition with very reasonable prices. We made quite a few purchases here as well as at the outlets.

Restaurants abound along this main highway so you definitely have your choice when it comes to dining. All I can say is that, ever since we returned, we’ve talked about visiting the Lancaster area again; we wanted to walk about the center of Lancaster itself with its many antique buildings which we never got to do.

We would highly recommend visiting this area and we intend to visit here again!
