Batumi Transportation

The second largest city in Georgia, Batumi is located on the Black Sea and is a highly popular tourist destination. Being so large a city, however, it is wise to get some insight into savvy transportation helps to get the most out of your stay.

Smart Navigating with Batumi Transportation

While locals will encourage you to use taxis to get around, be aware that are a more expensive travel means. Buses are a much cheaper option and a great experience. Since there aren’t too many bus stops, you need to wave your hand to get the bus driver’s attention, and he will stop. Buy your ticket from the driver and get it stamped as you depart. Buses #9-10 are especially useful to tourists, since they access the airport, and #10 routes along the seafront!

If, on the other hand, you prefer driving yourself, renting a car is quite affordable, and you can enjoy the [mostly] good roads and beautiful scenery, all while soaking in the local culture at your own pace. Just be sure to note speed limits!

Another popular Batumi transportation option is to ride the Marshrutka, which is a van that functions like a taxi. It is quite affordable. But be aware that the drivers of these van taxis tend to journey adventurously!

The Batumi airport is small but efficient, located a few kilometers from downtown. There is also a reasonably priced cafe in the airport.

A Valuable Note to Avoid Panic

When traveling to Batumi via night train, the traffic schedule will show your destination as Makhinjauri. Don’t worry that you made a mistake, though, it actually is Batumi.
