Barcelona Shopping – Shops, Stores, Best Buys & Inside Tips

Barcelona Shopping

If you’re looking to shop while in Barcelona, there are enough centers and markets to keep you busy your entire vacation. You’ll find goods from local produce and other foods to outlet centers to pretty much everything else in between.

Maremagnum Shopping Center

Constructed over the Mediterranean Sea, the Maremagnum Shopping Center is near many of the major city attractions. It’s not a high building but it’s very wide. You’ll find many shops, restaurants and cinemas. This place is worth a visit for shopping, meals and to relax.

Vendors on Las Ramblas

Las Ramblas is famous for its many street vendors where you can buy many different items. The flowers for sale are a big draw here. Portal de L’Angel (near Ramblas) is a pedestrian-only street which has an outdoor market and other shops. You’ll find unique items such as jewelry, scarves, gifts and more. A fun street to stroll down, day or night.

Mercat de la Boqueria

The most popular food market in Barcelona, it’s a must-see. Located right off La Rambla, the El Mercat de la Boqueria has the reputation of being one of the best fresh food markets in Europe. This market dates back to 1217 but was not officially recognized until 1826. Travelers describe how incredible it is to walk among the stalls to see the large variation of food, sweets, beverages and other products.

Mercat de Santa Caterina

Not as well-known as la Boqueria, you’ll find this market in the old town near the Cathedral. The exterior is a colorful ceramic roof and built in modern style (2005). Inside is an impressive high wooden ceiling with wooden market stalls; you’ll find the usual food market goods here and you’ll get a good opportunity to learn about local foods.

Other markets and centers to visit are the Mercat Gotic Antique Market, Outlet Leather Factory, La Roca Shopping Village (outlet center) and Diagonal Mar Shopping Centre. Barcelona Airport’s Terminal A, B and C is noted for its terrific shopping too.
